Myanmar and Thailand governments finally approved the signature of a new reciprocal agreement on visas for citizens of both countries. Visa-free entry will now be possible for Thais travelling to Myanmar and for Burmese travelling to Thailand with ordinary passport. The agreement covers a stay not exceeding 15 days if arriving by commercial aircraft.
Myanmar and Thailand are among the last countries which did not have a reciprocal free visa agreement within ASEAN. The move from both goverments come a few months before the official launching of the ASEAN Economic Community, due to start on December 31, 2015.
The agreement can be suspended temporarily for security or health reasons 15 days after written notification.
