Three million tourists arrived in Myanmar by the end of August, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism told the Myanmar Global Investment Forum in Nay Pyi Taw.
This represents exactly the total number of the whole year 2014. “We’re expecting to see up to 5 million tourists by the end of the year,” said Khin Than Win, the ministry’s director.
Around 792,000 tourists entered Myanmar in 2010, 816,000 in 2011, 1 million in 2012, 2.04 million in 2013 and 3.08 million last year.
To accompany the development of tourism and provide loans for the financing of hotels, transport infrastructure and tourism companies, the government allowed the creation of the Myanmar Tourism Bank Public Company. While the bank has already been registered with the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration, it still waits now or its license, which should be attributed before the end of the year.
