Singapore Airlines Likely To Be Back With Non-stop Services To The USA In 2018

According to Asian aviation experts CAPA, Singapore Airlines is due to come back on the Singapore-USA market after pulling out at the end of 2013. Singapore Airlines is in fact the launch customer for the Airbus 350 newest version, the Ultra Long Range AA350-900ULR. Singapore Airlines will be the first customer with seven aircraft being ordered. The aircraft will have a sufficient range to serve SIA has 63 A350-900s on order and has upgraded seven of those to be -900ULRs. As part of the transaction, SIA has exercised four purchase options into firm orders, bringing its total commitment to 67 A350s and 16 options.

The -900ULR has a stated range of 16,100 km which will enable the carrier to offer again non-stop services between Singapore and Los Angeles as well as New York. According to CAPA, the airline could also serve San Francisco or Houston. Data research from CAPA in OAG Traffic Analyser indicates that New York is the largest O&D market from Singapore with some 175 passengers a day, followed by San Francisco and Los Angeles. If only premium passengers are taken into consideration, New York would be SIA best destination followed by Los Angeles.
