Thai Smile flying to Siem Reap/Angkor from February

Thai Smile, Thai Airways hybrid affiliate, is due to start flying to Siem Reap, Cambodia prime tourist destination which is the gateway to the fabled Angkor Wat temples.The airline will start offering the flight between Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Siem Reap with five frequencies per week from February 1st. The carrier will join three other airlines serving the same route: the historical Bangkok-Siem Reap carrier, Bangkok Airways but also Thai AirAsia and Cambodia Angkor Air.

Ang Kim Eang, president of Cambodia Travel Agent Association, was optimistic about more overseas tourists visiting Siem Reap with the flights from Thailand.

“It is a good sign for Cambodia when there are more new airlines, and it reflects the ability of Angkor Wat temple to build the Kingdom’s reputation and attract more tourists,” he was quoted by the Phnom Penh Post on Tuesday.Last year, 2.1 million foreigners visited Angkor temples and Siem Reap.
