VITM- Vietnam International Travel Mart in April in Hanoi; ITE, International Travel Exhibition in September in Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam is one of the few countries in Southeast Asia to host two major international travel shows in a year. Well, this does not seem enough… Welcome then to the latest offspring in Vietnam travel industry: BMTM Danang 2016 will make its grand debut in June of this year. Behind BMTM acronym stands the Beach Leisure & MICE Travel Mart which will help promoting Vietnam central provinces but also go into the niche market of promoting seaside destinations linked to MICE activities, according to Deputy Director of Danang Center for Tourism Promotion – then main driving force behind the new show. Starting from June 24 to June 26, the show will take place at Danang Tien Son Center Exhibition Hall. It will include a trade exhibition as well as a seminar on the way to combine Beach-leisure & MICE travel…
The concept still remains vague although there is certainly a niche market to be explore for MICE and business travel activities linked to seaside and beach resort destinations. However, would it not be more effective to combine the newly created mart with the two existing ones? This was not the opinion of Vietnam National Tourism Administration during their media briefing at the last ATF in Manila.
According to Ha Van Sieu, Vice Chairman of VNAT, there is a definitive market for all travel shows. “VITM mostly looks after outbound travel as companies look for opportunities to target Vietnam growing middle class while ITE is looking at inbound tourism not only to Vietnam but to the entire Mekong region”, he said.
Is there still space for Danang show? Probably the first edition will learn from its trumps and possible mistakes and adjust its target and positioning accordingly. It might however be difficult to entice travel professionals to visit another show as they are already extremely solicited from other countries around the world- if not within the region. June is already the month of the Thailand Travel Mart and the Mekong Tourism Forum. Would professionals accept to extend for another week or two their stay in Southeast Asia to go to Danang? Only the future will tell!
