Malaysia tourism lost 1.7 million international visitors between 2014 and 2015, going down to 25.72 million arrivals last year. The biggest decline in absolute numbers came from Singapore, with total arrivals down by one million. South Asia generally recorded a mediocre performance with some of the biggest declines in tourist arrivals registered from Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka although the total number of travellers from India went down “only” by 6.2%!
From the 45 top inbound markets, only five of them showed a growth last year with only South Korea progressing last year by over 9%. Surprisingly, large drops in tourist arrivals were also recorded for most countries from the Gulf area/Middle East.
