Vietnam Assembly Approves One-Year Visa for US Citizens

Citizens from the United States will be able to travel to Vietnam on one-year, multiple-entry visas. The decision was taken by Vietnam National Assembly in early April.  A parliament resolution to ratify the Diplomatic Note on Visa Granting between Vietnam and the United States, which is expected to boost tourist and business ties between the two countries, won 92.9 percent of votes from the assembly.

US citizens have so far been granted three-month visas, which caused many difficulties to US visitors, according to the newly-elected President Tran Dai Quang, who proposed the change to the National Assembly on April 4. The USA grants on its side one-year visas with multiple entries to visitors from Vietnam.
The USA is one of Vietnam’s top inbound market, being the fourth largest market source after China PRC, South Korea, Japan and ahead of Taiwan. In 2015, total arrivals from the USA reached 491,249, up by 10.7% over 2014. During the first quarter of 2016, total arrivals from the USA by 14.7% to reach 164,738 visitors.
