Thai AirAsia Confirms Bangkok Don Mueang-Vientiane flight

Low cost carrier Thai AirAsia confirmed to start flying from July between Bangkok Don Mueang International Airport and Vientiane, Lao PDR capital city. Vientiane is already served by Malaysia AirAsia out of Kuala Lumpur with five weekly services.

TAA plans to offer a daily frequency. According to the airline preliminary schedule, the flight would leave Don Mueang airport at 12.05pm to reeach Vientiane around 1.25pm. The return flight would depart Wattay International Airport in Vientiane at 2.15pm with an estimated landing  in Don Mueang around 3.35pm. The route will be served for the first time by a LCC, which will stands in competition with Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways and Lao Airlines. Recent liberalisation by Laotian authorities is now translating into the country opening up to many new Lao and foreign airlines.

On March 26, Thai AirAsia launched its first route to Lao PDR with the opening of Bangkok-Luang Prabang. The carrier hopes that the new flight to Vientiane will be able to attract some of the travellers who fly via Udon Thani, an airport located 70 km away from Vientiane. Thai AirAsia believes that the combination of factors such as a non stop frequency and low fares will boost demand. TAA should offer one way ticket from THB 1,500- equivalent to US$43.5.
