URGENT Istanbul Ataturk Airport Closed Following Military Coup Attempt in Turkey

For passengers flying with Turkish Airlines or any other carrier from and to Turkey, Istanbul Ataturk airport is closed to the public this Saturday morning (Bangkok/Singapore local time) following a military coup attempt in the country. Flights are for now delayed indefinitely until the situation normalized.

Istanbul is a major gateway and a premier hub between Asia and Europe. Turkish Airlines offers flights to 265 destinations including domestic ones. From that total, the airline serves 40 destinations in Asia -including seven cities in Southeast Asia (Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Singapore) and 94 European destinations, excluding domestic flights. With 61.8 million of passengers in 2015, Istanbul Ataturk is the 11th busiest airports in the world and the third largest in Europe.
