Conde Nast Traveler Names 18 ASEAN Places Among Asia Most Beautiful

Prestigious US travel publication Conde Nast Traveler published its annual list of Asia Most Beautiful Places, including 18 sites located in ASEAN.

Nine countries of the 10 ASEAN members have been nominated in the list of the 50 Most Beautiful Places in Asia. The most nominated destination is Indonesia with five registered sites. Bunaken National Maritime Park is in fact the top destination for CN Traveler while Borobudur Temple in Central Java arrived in fifth position and Raja Ampat National Park came in sixth position. Vietnam has the second highest number of nominations with three sites, followed by Thailand and Cambodia, both Kingdoms having two sites on the list.

While most of Southeast Asian sites named by CN Traveler come at no surprise – the classification includes usual tourist destinations such as Tanah Lot in Bali, Angkor Wat in Cambodia or Halong Bay in Vietnam, they are two surprises: – Singapore skyline has been nominated among the top most beautiful Asian sites and… Phnom Penh Central Market in Cambodia. The beautiful structure was started in 1934 by Phnom Penh chief architect, Frenchman Jean Desbois and realized by another architect Louis Chauchon. It was achieved in 1937 and was the largest in Asia when it opened. The market was renovated in 2011 with funds from the French Development Agency.
