The Tutong River Cruise will be one of the new highlights of Brunei for travellers with packages just being launched this week under “Destinasi Tutong”, an initiative of the District Tourism Promotion and Coordination Body.
Stakeholders in the tourism industry are welcomed to establish a business agreement which will produce a positive impact in the country’s tourism sector. The Minister of Primary resources and Tourism Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apon urged airline companies, hotels and travel agencies to take the opportunity to collaborate with tour package operators in order to add diversity and choices to the package.
The Minister made the call at a ceremony to introduce the Tutong River Jetty Area as a Tutong Destination Package this week. Efforts to promote tourism in the Tutong District has received cooperation from stakeholders in the tourism industry such as local tour operators in order to raise interest about new destinations in the Sultanate.
Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apon added, this has been proven with the increase in the number of domestic and international tourists who have selected the Tutong District as their vacation’s tourism destination. According to statistics from the Tutong District Tourism Promotion and Coordination Body, some 1,680 tourists have visited various places of interest in the district last year.
As a continuous effort in promoting Brunei Darussalam as a unique tourism destination, 8 Tutong Destination Packages were introduced. The joint venture between the Tourism Development Department and Tutong District Tourism Promotion and Coordination Body just launched ‘two days-one night’ and ‘day trip’ packages.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the Kampong Tasek Merimbun Consultative Council with tour operators including Hasa Incentives Sendirian Berhad. Also signing were representatives from Perusahaan Puteri Maya, Perusahaan Seri Melati and Sinar Tour Sendirian Berhad. The signing was witnessed by Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong.
The Tutong River Cruise package gives the opportunity for tourists to discover nature and history places of interest including the view of Tutong Town, the Tutong River Landmark and “Lurah Saban” which tells about the beginning of the Tutong community as well as the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in contemporary style located in Pekan tutong.
However, of particular interest are local fauna and flora for travellers. Though close to urban dwelling, the river is still surrounded by pristine vegetation such as mangrove and swarms surrounded by primitive forests. It is home to various bird species, including the Borneo hornbill as well as crocodiles or at night mesmerising fireflies.
Brunei Minister of Primary resources and Tourism targets some 450,000 international tourists by 2020, compared to the current number of 320,000.
