Come for A New Smile to Vietnam

Vietnam, medical tourism, marketing

Dental tourism is on the increase in Vietnam according to the dental care provider Vietnam Dental Tourism which estimates that 100,000 travellers come to the country for their teeth…

Coming to Vietnam not only to admire landscapes, enjoy food or Vietnam urban life, but also to get a new smile. According to company Vietnam Dental Tourism, some 100,000 international tourists visited Vietnam last year for dental procedures, bringing in over US$150 million.

Within five years, the number of customers coming for crowns, veneers, implants and cleaning from Australia, Europe, North America and elsewhere in Asia could reach 250,000 patients by 2022 as the government focuses their attention on the industry.

State of the art technology and significantly lower prices are driving the growth. Dental treatment can be up to 75% cheaper than in other Asian countries, according to Nguyễn Đức Minh, deputy chairman of the HCM City Odonto Stomatology Association. The hospital welcomes already 500 overseas travellers every year.

A crown procedure in Vietnam costs less than 15% of what it does in America and slightly more than half of that in Thailand thanks to cheaper labor costs, facilities and the support of advanced dental technology.

The most popular destination for dental tourism is Ho Chi Minh City but also Hanoi and increasingly Danang or Vung Tau. International dental care cabinets are generally endorsed by the government who sees in dental tourism a new promising activity for the country. Tourism authorities believe that combining a dental holiday package which includes accommodation, airport transfers, dental consultation and appointments as well as sightseeing tours for the same price or even less than dental costs alone in Europe or in North America will be an increasingly attractive proposal for foreign travellers.

Further consultations have now to be discussed with insurance to see if some of the dental care can eventually be covered by medical insurance companies abroad…
