After recently upgrading its main website, the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism has launched a mobile application that gives tourists quick access to information about Cambodia.
Using for a couple of years the slogan”Kingdom of Wonder”, the application was presented to the public in Siem Reap at Sokha Resort and Convention Centre, according to the Khmer Times last week.
The event, which also featured the seminar ‘Cambodia Tourism Destination Promotion through Digital System’, was presided over by Tourism Minister Thong Khon and attended by ministry officials and private sector representatives on Wednesday.
The app puts at users’ fingertips all the information about Cambodia they need to know to prepare their visit, including history, language, climate, religion and population.
There is also a news section as well as information on the top tourism destinations, domestic events and festivals, accommodation, restaurants, transportation options, money exchange, embassies, and flights.
According to the ministry, the app takes away the hassle of browsing through different websites to get all the information you need about Cambodia. It is available for Android and iOS.
The Tourism Ministry has recently been pushing the promotion of Cambodia by way of mobile applications. Last year, for example, it launched the Cambodia Best Hospitality app, intended to give tourists a glimpse of the quality and cleanliness of different venues across the Kingdom.
Cambodia was visited by 6.2 million tourists in 2018, making it the seventh most-visited country in Southeast Asia last year. Most of the visitors came from China, the United States, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Cambodia is looking again at a double-digit growth of total tourist arrivals this year.
During the first five months of 2019, total arrivals grew by 11.4% equivalent to 2.88 million. The Kingdom registered 2.02 million international arrivals by air with Phnom Penh generating 32.5% of all air arrivals with close to 925,000 air travellers while Siem Reap Airport is loosing steam with 850,000 air arrivals, down by 4.5% compared to the first five months of 2018. China continues to generate the largest number of arrivals. With 1.1 million tourist arrivals from January to May (+40%), Chinese represents 38% of all international arrivals into the country.
