Inbound travel shows are successfully organised every year in ASEAN countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines or Vietnam. Malaysia will join in 2020 with a new show called MTTM (Malaysia Tourism and Travel Mart) with the first edition to be hosted in Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia recently announced to host its own tourism show dedicated to B2B visitors – mostly to tour operators as well as MICE organisers keen to look after new tourism products in the country. Called the Malaysia Tourism and Travel Mart or MTTM, the organisation of the show has been given to a well-known international event organiser, CEMS. The company is based in Singapore and has a long experience in the organisation of successful exhibitions and conferences in a lot of Asian countries.
The new tourism exhibition will take place from June 25 to 27 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in the heart of the Malaysian capital. The launching next year will coincide with the fact that Malaysia is hosting its Visit Year 2020.
The event will be supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Malaysia (MOTAC) and intend to become an important event for tour operators. Organisers expect to welcome 500 participants with 200 hosted buyers and 300 exhibitors as well as MICE organisers and media for the first edition. In total, MTTM could then play host for 1,000 participants.
On the 27, the show will open to the consumers. It is anticipated that the consumer day could attract another 8,000 visitors. CEMS estimates that the show could bring some MYR25.1 million (US$6 million) to the country’s tourism earnings.
