The Philippine Airlines is turning Zamboanga, located in the extreme southern part of Mindanao Island, into a mini-hub as it launched two new domestic routes while adding more frequencies to Cebu beside the daily frequencies to Manila in December

Philippine Airlines expands its route network from Cebu and upgrades Zamboanga into a mini-hub, with the introduction recently of three brand new routes: Cebu – Zamboanga, Cebu – Dipolog and Zamboanga – Tawi Tawi.

The expansion reflects the commitment of the Philippines flag carrier for the island of Mindanao – the home of Philippines Presidente Rodrigo Duterte. PAL’s new air linkages will not only enhance accessibility and travel convenience but also further promote economic growth and business activities in the western regions of Mindanao.

The airlines, recently won the World’s Most Improved Airline award from Skytrax, is expanding flights and connections to and from various Mindanao gateways. In addition to Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga and Dipolog, PAL also serves Davao, Siargao, Camiguin, General Santos City, Butuan, Ozamiz City, Cagayan de Oro and Clark.

PAL has beefed up its hub network from Cebu, now serves a total of 17 destinations, namely: Bacolod, Busuanga, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Caticlan, Camiguin, Davao, Dipolog, General Santos, Iloilo, Kalibo, Legazpi, Ozamiz, Puerto Princesa, Siargao, Zamboanga and Tacloban.

By January 2020, the carrier will add a daily non-stop service from Manila to Zamboanga as well while its affiliate, PAL Express, is planning to inaugurate its first international flight with a route to Kota Kinabalu at the end of March. The route will be served three times per week with a DASH-8. In another development, the carrier will also launch three weekly services between Davao and Manado in Indonesia with a DASH-8.

The new flights are as follow:

PAL’s new twice-daily Cebu – Zamboanga flights depart Cebu at 5:40am (PR2991) and at 2pm (PR2995) every day, and arrives in Zamboanga at 7:10am and at 3:30pm, respectively.

Return flights PR 2992 and PR 2996 leave Zamboanga at 12NN and 4pm and touch down in Cebu at 1:30pm and 4pm, respectively.

Zamboanga International Airport gains hub status as PAL launches daily Zamboanga – Tawi-Tawi flights, leaving Zamboanga at 8am via PR2495 and arriving in Tawi-Tawi’s Sanga-Sanga Airport  at 9:30am; while flights from Tawi-Tawi leave at 10am via PR2496 and touch down in Zamboanga at 11:30am.

Tawi-Tawi thus becomes PAL’s 31st domestic gateway, as the flag carrier introduces daily flights and a full-service airline product between the Philippines’ southernmost province and Zamboanga.  Additionally, Filipino and foreign tourists can now travel more conveniently to Tawi-Tawi from PAL’s hubs in Manila and Cebu, via Zamboanga.
